Dare You to Move!
Lyrics excerpted from “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot. Used for commentary and reflection.
We’ve been out and about this past month — meeting new Adventurers, helping clean up our neighborhood, and dreaming up the next chapter of our travels.
Today, at the Orlando City Soccer Club Purple Pride 5K, I had the pleasure of hearing about my favorite topic: Adventure. Our extra-large map displayed behind the booth became an instant conversation starter, inviting people to share where they’ve been and where they’re headed next. What an amazing thing — to simply move.
I met a kind woman who had also traveled by motorhome, but hers was a full six-year journey — six times longer than ours. What a testament to how much there is to see and experience without ever leaving the United States.
I also met Elaine — “English Elaine,” as she was affectionately dubbed. She and her husband moved from England to the U.S. about ten years ago. She shared that flying back and forth had become increasingly expensive, and one day she thought, Why don’t we just travel here instead? Exactly.
There is so much to see in this vast land. Her husband mentioned that the single, beautiful state of Florida is actually larger than England — and he’s right (I had to look it up!). Florida is roughly 30% larger than the entire country of England. Let that sink in. Think of everything there is to explore in just one state… and then imagine the rest of the U.S.
As we wrapped up our pop-up shop and headed off for a farm-fresh lunch, the song Dare You to Move by Switchfoot came on PopRocks (thank heavens for Gen X radio stations). I’ve hummed that tune a million times, but for the first time, I really listened to the words. It felt like the perfect companion for the day:
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone’s here
So true. We’re all here. Why stay still?
Let’s go find each other — and find ourselves. You might be surprised by what you learn along the way.

During our MLK Day of Service this month on behalf of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Orlando Beautiful, I learned just how powerful small actions can be. Picking up two full buckets of trash might not seem like much — until it’s multiplied by fifty people. It protects wildlife, keeps kids safe, restores pride in a community, and offers a moment to reflect on the wonder of this land we’ve been entrusted to care for.
Martin Luther King Jr. made only one visit to Orlando, where he delivered a historic speech at Tinker Field on March 6, 1964. A powerful moment of movement — in every sense of the word.
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
Move — and lift ourselves, and others, up. The song really does speak, doesn’t it?

In addition to cheering on the runners who participated today for the Orlando City SC Men’s team and the Orlando Pride Women’s team, I also learned we’ll be welcoming a new kind of futbol to Inter & Co Stadium in 2026. The Orlando Storm UFL team will kick off its inaugural season in March — yet another reason to celebrate movement, sport, and each other.
English Elaine closed out our day by returning to purchase a second shirt for a friend preparing to retire. We couldn’t be more excited to see where their travels take them next. She offered us bountiful blessings, and we wished her safe travels in return.
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
To all the Adventurers we met today — we hope you take full advantage of the freedom to move. As for us, we’re setting our sights on what’s next.
Coming soon, you’ll find us at the Celebration Farmers Market and Cape Canaveral Friday Fest. Stop by, say hello, and place your sticker on the 50x50 Map.
We’d love to know where your journey begins — and don’t forget to share your movements along the way.
